How to Install Verity Mod

Complete step-by-step installation guide for Java Edition (Forge + GeckoLib) and Bedrock Edition (PE/mobile). Includes troubleshooting tips for common issues.

This guide is for unofficial fan-made Verity mods, not an official Mojang release. The original Verity from ThatMob's video was scripted fiction. These mods are inspired by that concept and created independently by the community.

Before you start

Installation depends on which Minecraft edition you play:

Java Edition: PC/Mac/Linux players using the original Java version. Requires Forge mod loader and GeckoLib.
Bedrock Edition: Windows 10/11, consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch), and mobile (iOS/Android, formerly called PE). Uses .mcaddon behavior packs.

Not sure which edition you have? Java Edition has a "Java Edition" label on the main menu. Bedrock Edition just says "Minecraft" and supports cross-play with consoles and mobile.

Java Edition installation

Java Edition mods require the Forge mod loader and GeckoLib (for animations). Follow these steps in order. Version requirements are current as of 2026.

1 Install Forge mod loader

Go to files.minecraftforge.net and download the "Installer" for your Minecraft version. Most Verity mods require Minecraft 1.20.1 or 1.21.x — check the mod page for the exact version.

Run the installer, select "Install client," and click OK. This creates a new "Forge" profile in your Minecraft launcher.

2 Install GeckoLib

GeckoLib is an animation library required by most Verity mods. Download it from CurseForge or Modrinth. Make sure you download the version that matches your Minecraft and Forge versions.

Place the geckolib-*.jar file in your mods folder (see Step 4 for folder location).

3 Download the Verity mod

Download the Verity mod .jar file from an official source like CurseForge or Modrinth. Avoid random file-sharing sites or Discord links — see our safety guide for more details.

The file will be named something like verity-mod-*.jar.

4 Place the mod in your mods folder

Open your Minecraft folder:

Windows: Press Win + R, type %appdata%\.minecraft, and press Enter
Mac: Open Finder, press Cmd + Shift + G, type ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Linux: The folder is at ~/.minecraft

Open the mods folder (create it if it doesn't exist). Place both the geckolib-*.jar and verity-mod-*.jar files inside.

5 Launch Minecraft with Forge

Open the Minecraft launcher, select the "Forge" profile from the dropdown, and click "Play." The mod should now be active. You can verify it's working by checking the "Mods" button on the main menu — both GeckoLib and Verity should appear in the list.

Bedrock Edition installation

Bedrock Edition (including PE/mobile) uses .mcaddon behavior packs, which are easier to install than Java mods.

1 Download the .mcaddon file

Download the Verity Bedrock add-on from CurseForge or MCPEDL. The file will have a .mcaddon extension.

2 Open the file in Minecraft

Tap or double-click the .mcaddon file. Minecraft should open automatically and import the add-on. If it doesn't:

Android: Use a file manager app, find the downloaded file, and select "Open with Minecraft"
iOS: Use the Files app, find the download, and select "Share" > "Open in Minecraft"
Windows 10/11: Right-click the file and select "Open with Minecraft"

3 Enable Beta APIs in your world

Create a new world or edit an existing one. Go to Settings > Experiments and toggle on "Beta APIs". This is required for the add-on's behavior scripts to run.

Some add-ons may also require other experimental features — check the add-on's description page for specific requirements.

4 Activate the add-on

In your world settings, go to Behavior Packs and activate the Verity add-on. It should now be loaded in your world.

Some Bedrock add-ons require a one-time setup command to connect to an external server for chat functionality. Check the add-on's description for the exact command (if needed).

Only download from official sources like CurseForge, Modrinth, or MCPEDL. Avoid:

Random file-sharing sites or "direct download" mirrors
Discord links or Telegram groups claiming to have "Verity mod downloads"
Any site asking you to complete surveys or enter personal information
Files named "Verity mod.exe" or similar executables — real mods are .jar or .mcaddon files

Troubleshooting common issues

If your Verity mod isn't working, check these common problems:

Java Edition issues

Game crashes on launch: Make sure you installed Forge and GeckoLib before the Verity mod. Check that all versions match (Minecraft, Forge, GeckoLib, and the mod itself).
Mod doesn't appear in the Mods list: Make sure the .jar files are in the correct mods folder and that you're launching with the Forge profile.

Bedrock Edition issues
